Frequently Asked Questions

IS ACUPUNCTURE PAINFUL? Acupuncture needles are very thin and flexible, about the diameter of a human hair. They are pre-packaged, sterile and used only once then disposed of in a hazardous waste container. Acupuncture bears no resemblance to the feeling of an injection since the pain from injections is due to the larger diameter and hollow needle and the medication being forced into the tissue by pressure. Nothing is injected into the body with acupuncture and in most instances, insertion of acupuncture needles is performed without any discomfort. You may experience a momentary heaviness, ache or "zing" in the area of insertion. Most people find treatments relaxing and often fall asleep during treatment.

HOW MANY TREATMENTS DO I NEED TO FEEL BETTER? Most people experience an improvement within their first three treatments. Some patients experience immediate changes with the first treatment. The duration of a course of therapy varies greatly, depending upon the individual person and the condition for which they seek treatment. In general, the longer a person has a condition, the longer it takes to notice results. However, every person responds uniquely. On the average, people feel significant results after 4 to 6 treatments.

IS ACUPUNCTURE COVERED BY INSURANCE? Call your insurance company and ask them if acupuncture is covered by your particular plan. More insurance companies are recognizing the efficacy of acupuncture and your plan may cover acupuncture treatment.  While Kathy does not accept insurance payments directly, she will provide a receipt which you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. Full payment is expected at the time of service.

WHAT ABOUT MY PHYSICIAN? to see your physician and take prescribed medications as instructed by your doctor. You do not need a referral from your doctor to seek acupuncture treatment. Acupuncture will augment any medical treatment you are receiving.

HOW MUCH DOES ACUPUNCTURE COST? Your first appointment will last between 1 1/2 to 2 hours and costs $110.00. It includes a comprehensive review of your medical and personal health history, diagnosis and treatment. Subsequent appointments last 1 hour and are $70.00. Kathy offers special treatment packages for smoking cessation. She will be glad to discuss them with you. Payment can be made by either cash, personal check or credit card at the time of service.
